An extremely interesting realisation was a challenge in the form of preparing the project of a gripper intended for an industrial robot. According to the customer’s recommendations, the finished machine was to efficiently move a package of furniture panels from the production line to the transport trolley. Discussions with the cooperating company allowed us to distinguish the most important design features of the device, namely:

  • the weight of the gripper together with the package of panels could not exceed the maximum load capacity of the robot,
  • the gripper jaws had to provide adequate clamping force on packages of different sizes and weights,
  • the work surfaces of the jaws could not damage the delicate edges of the panels.

Taking into account the above assumptions, we designed the gripper support structure from lightweight closed aluminium profiles. This solution minimised weight and at the same time ensured adequate rigidity. Moreover, the jaws, in the form of two sliding beams welded from thin sheet metal parts, are equipped with soft plastic facings. There were also some difficulties, which we overcame with great determination. As a result of the construction process, we met all of the customer’s requirements. The whole project was a great challenge, but it also gave us great satisfaction.
