An interesting task on the list of completed challenges was the project of a paving stone impregnation machine made for the AUTOPROCES company based in Dębica. Thanks to impregnation of paving stones, the surface remains in perfect condition for many years. The main task of this treatment is to limit absorption, and thus guarantee easier removal of any dirt. The main goal of the investor was to prepare a cabin for impregnation of paving stones, which would be an integral part of the production line. What is more, the task of the device according to the vision of the contracting company was to cover the paving stones with a protective preparation according to the technological conditions of impregnation. For the impregnation, the paving stones were compressed into a layer with the maximum dimensions of 1200 x 1200 mm. The layer of paving stones was made by a machine on a pallet, which was connected to a conveyor. It moved the pallets with the paving stones in an intermittent motion towards the impregnation cabin. The impregnation time was determined by the time it took to form the layer and was several seconds (the conveyor’s standstill time).

The realisation of this interesting project required us to take into account a number of requirements and assumptions. In the course of the work we had to introduce the following aspects:

• the installed cabin was to be located above the pallet conveyor;
• the cabin had to be airtight;
• inclusion of the extraction system;
• use of appropriate operation of spray nozzles applying the impregnant (spray system supplied by a professional company);
• the possibility of cyclic flushing of the spray system (the impregnant gelled and clogged the spray system within a few minutes);
• inclusion of spraying heads automatically moved in a uniform motion in order to evenly cover the entire surface of the paving stones with impregnant;
• the cabin, in addition to the guards guaranteeing tightness, had to have automatically operating guards to protect the exposed surface of the pallet during the application of the impregnant (the pallet could not be covered with the impregnant).

Despite some difficulties, we prepared a project that fully met the customer’s expectations. Moreover, the work gave us great satisfaction and was a great challenge. We also learned a lot and gained further valuable experience. Taking part in such projects always gives us great joy.
